What is fixed wireless?
Fixed wireless connections operate by sending signals from a dish on a high site (or tower) on a nearby hill to a dish on the roof of your house. The frequency used is different to that of 4G/5G meaning that it can travel up to 20km, but it needs a clear line of sight between your dish and high site for the service to operate.
The dish on your roof connects to your router inside your home and your router then spreads WiFi throughout your house. Because it’s a direct tower-to-dish connection, you get reliable speeds without relying on satellites or congested mobile networks.

Lightwire Installation Process
1. Sign-Up & Coverage Check
After a sign-up is received either via phone or online, our specialist sales team will complete a coverage check. We will take a look at the line of sight from our tower to your property. We check to see if there are any trees or hills potentially blocking the line of sight. If there’s nothing the stands out, we’ll process your sign up.
It’s good to note that we won’t be able to guarantee connection until our local technician is onsite at your property. We’ll do our best with our desktop analysis, but nothing beats our team on the ground looking at all potential issues that might prevent us from providing you with a connection.
2. Access & Scheduling
After we’ve processed your sign up, our specialist sales team will reach out to you to confirm any access issues, such as dogs, gates, and alarms we should be aware of. Please note, for our technician's safety, dogs will need to be locked up. We will also confirm any preferred days of the week that suit you best for installation.
Our standard installation timeframe is 10 business days (two standard weeks). Please note that this may vary during peak periods, such as June moves or times of high sign-up volume. Rest assured, our Field Technician team is committed to reaching you as quickly as possible. We’ll do everything we can to ensure your wait doesn’t exceed the standard timeframe.
3. Booking Confirmation
After our specialist sales team gets you booked in, we will send a quick confirmation email to confirm the date you’re booked in for. Our installer would then reach out to you directly closer to the day to confirm the time he’ll be out.
4. Installation Day: What to Expect
1. Pre-install checks: On the day of your install, the technician will inspect your property for safety and test which Lightwire towers have the best signal and line of sight.
2. Consultation: Once a strong signal is confirmed, the installer will discuss options for dish placement, router location for optimal Wi-Fi, and cable routing.
3. Installation: After you agree on the setup, the technician will install your high-speed broadband. The process takes about 3–4 hours, and our experienced team ensures high-quality workmanship.
4. Testing: Finally, the installer will check your connection, router setup, and signal performance to make sure you’re ready to go.
