Lightwire has been a key sponsor at the Cyber Security Challenge, held at Waikato University, for over 5 years now. With a ton of our own staff coming from the BCompSc program at Waikato University, it’s a no brainer why we’d want to support this event year on year!

This year, Nuwan (Lightwire’s Cyber Security Engineers) and Taylor (one of Lightwire’s Full Stack Developers) headed down to assist in all the fun.

Cybersecurity is a critical component of our digital world more than ever now, and fostering a robust talent pipeline is essential to safeguard against emerging threats. That’s why Lightwire is proud to sponsor the annual Cyber Security Challenge. This multi-stage competition offers a platform for individuals of all levels to test their skills against real-world challenges. The initial online qualifying round provides a broad reach, inviting anyone with an interest in cyber security to participate. By covering diverse topics including but limited to web security, forensics, cryptography, and steganography.

The top 150 competitors are then invited to on-campus event. This two-day event brings together industry experts, aspiring cybersecurity professionals, and enthusiasts for a dynamic exchange of knowledge and skills. The first day features insightful technical talks and valuable networking opportunities, allowing attendees to stay updated on the latest industry trends.

The highlight of the event is undoubtedly the second and final day, which is dedicated to the challenge itself. A stimulating quiz led by industry professionals tests participants’ knowledge, while the Capture the Flag (CTF) competition pushes the boundaries of their technical abilities.

This event is more than just a competition, it’s an opportunity for us at Lightwire to demonstrate our commitment to nurturing cybersecurity talent and contribute to the overall enhancement of New Zealand’s digital security posture.
