A WiFi connection that keeps dropping is infuriating, especially when you’re gripping to the edge of your seat while watching your favourite Netflix show…

There are several points where your connection can be briefly interrupted, resulting in dropouts. This guide will explore the ones you can check, and how to fix a few common issues.

  • Step 1: Check if Your Connection to the Router is Dropping

Your device connects to the router either via cable or WiFi. If you’re experiencing dropouts in this connection, the issue is likely local.

For a wired connection, ensure both ends of the cable are securely plugged in and inspect for any visible damage. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, try swapping it with a new or known working cable.

For a WiFi connection, interference from other devices may be the cause. Use the WiFiMan app (available on Desktop and Android) to scan your WiFi environment and check if other devices in your home are broadcasting on the same channel as your router.

Also, check if multiple devices are affected. If only one device is experiencing dropouts, the issue may lie with that particular device.

  • Step 2: Check if the Internet Connection is Dropping

If your devices stay connected to the local network (via cable or WiFi) but show a message like “Connected, No Internet,” the problem may be with your connection hardware.

Follow our guide for checking a Connection Offline, and carefully inspect the cables and connections for any damage. If you spot damage on your black dish cable, contact us immediately at 0800 12 13 14.

Power Supply Check

In both cases, power issues may be the culprit. Make sure your Lightwire equipment is plugged into a reliable power source. Sometimes, aging power sockets or multi-boards can cause small interruptions that disrupt your router and dish, even if other appliances like fans or heaters seem unaffected.

Still No Luck? If you’ve followed these steps and still can’t identify the problem, don’t hesitate to call us at 0800 12 13 14. We’re here to help and will troubleshoot with you.
