International Roaming

For just $9 a day you can use your NZ plan data, minutes and TXT in our Daily Roaming destinations incl GST. For other destinations, you will be charged per minute or per TXT at rates specific to that location.

Voicemail

Calls to voicemail are free.

Things to know:

  • Maximum speed reduced to 1.2Mbps after full speed data allowance is exceeded.
  • The amount of your full speed data allowance varies depending on which plan you have selected.
  • Endless calls & TXTs are for standard person-to-person calls and TXTs to standard NZ and Australian numbers. Excludes special and premium numbers (i.e. short codes). Personal Mobile use only.
  • Up to 3 Companion plans can be added per full priced Primary plan, to the same billing account. 50GB companion plans must have 50GB as the primary plan.
  • Any non-standard calls will be charged per minute, rounded up to the closest full minute, unless otherwise stated by the service provider.
  • To use Wifi Calling, Lightwire customers need a VoLTE enabled voice calling plan, an eligible phone with Wifi Calling turned on & a good quality Wifi connection.

Roaming:

For just $9 incl GST a day you can use your NZ plan's data, minutes and TXTs overseas with Daily Roaming. Simplified rates apply to other destinations.

Add and manage through the portal

You don't need to email or ring anyone to add a mobile plan to your account. Simply log into your customer portal and add services through there. the portal allows you to do things in your own time, including:

● Add additional mobile plans to your account
● Get data usage insights on all the mobile plans under your account
● Change your plan

Good: You can generally expect a reliable connection for calling, texting, and using data.

Moderate: Your experience is expected to sit between Good and Limited. Actual performance may vary within that range.

Limited: Calls, texts, and basic data can still work, but you’re more likely to have trouble staying connected and may notice slower speeds.

Important: Other factors can affect your ability to connect to the network.

What can affect your connection

The coverage levels shown are a guide to outdoor coverage. Your actual experience can vary depending on:

  • your exact location
  • the phone or device you’re using
  • whether you’re moving
  • network conditions, like how many people are using the same tower at once
  • your surroundings, including buildings, trees, and even the weather
How to read the mobile coverage map

This mobile coverage map shows the areas where you’re expected to be able to connect to a mobile network when you are outdoors.

It is based on technical data that predicts where a connection should be possible and, where shown, how strong that connection is likely to be.

The map is a general guide to where the One NZ network and outdoor coverage are available. It does not guarantee that you will be able to connect, or that your experience will match the predicted level of coverage.

Indoor coverage and buildings

The coverage map does not apply indoors.

If you’re inside, your experience can also be affected by the building itself and where you are within it. For example, you may have more difficulty connecting, or experience poorer performance, if you are:

  • inside a building with thick walls
  • in a room with few windows
  • in a basement
Phone and device compatibility

The mobile coverage map does not apply to phones or devices that are not set up properly or are not compatible with New Zealand mobile networks.

For the best experience, your phone or device needs to be fully compatible with our network.

This is especially important if your phone or device was:

  • bought second-hand or refurbished
  • purchased overseas
  • bought through an international website
  • not purchased from a New Zealand network provider
What you need for 4G and 5G

To connect to our 4G and 5G networks, you need:

  • a phone or device that supports our 4G or 5G network
  • to be in an area with 4G or 5G coverage
  • an eligible mobile plan
Rural coverage and Band 28

For the best coverage in rural areas, and inside large buildings in urban areas, your phone needs to support 4G Band 28 / LTE 700.

Most phones do, but some devices bought overseas or through parallel importers may not.

To check your phone, free text 3G to 550. This will help confirm whether your phone is ready for the 3G shutdown, including support for 4G Band 28 / LTE 700.

Unfortunately, no we don't. We do eSIM and physical SIMs, but not hardware.

What are companion plans?

A companion plan sits on the same account as your primary plan(the first plan you sign up for) with access to special rates. At Lightwire, you have access to a great rate for our 50GB companion plan if your primary plan is a 50GB Endless Plan.

You’ll need an eligible primary plan before you can add a companion plan. You can add up to 3 companion plans. Companion plans are designed for people in the same household or setup who want a simple way to stay connected together. All plan changes and add-ons are managed through your Lightwire Home Portal.

If you have a fixed wireless broadband connection with Lightwire, you'll get $10 off your primary mobile plan per month, and $5 off any additional plans you add to your account. That means you can save up to $25 per month on mobile charges!
