nbn® for Australian businesses

Business-grade broadband for every site.

Enterprise ethernet or TC4 - backed by Lightwire support.

What is nbn®

The national broadband network (nbn®) is Australia’s fibre access network connecting businesses across cities and regions.

But not all nbn® is created equal.

Lightwire delivers business-grade nbn® solutions built for reliability, speed, and proactive support.

We offer two nbn®types - enterprise ethernet (EE) for critical workloads, and TC4 broadband for cost-conscious sites.

Both include 24/7 monitoring, static IPs, and unlimited data.

Enterprise ethernet (EE)

Built for performance & control

Designed for organisations that rely on guaranteed performance and uptime.

nbn® EE is deal for:
  • IT companies and cloud-based services
  • Financial, professional, and healthcare organisations
  • Multi-site enterprises and data-driven teams

Technical benefits

  • Symmetrical speeds from 250 Mbps up to 1 Gbps
  • nbn® EE (enterprise ethernet) is a point-to-point (P2P) design, not a shared FttP/GPON
  • Multi-VLAN capable for internet and private WAN use
  • BGP and static IP support
  • Multiple classes (CoS-H, CoS-M, CoS-L) for committed vs excess traffic
  • Target uptime of 99.95 percent
  • Dual PSU NTU options for extra resilience

Non-technical benefits

  • Enterprise-grade SLAs with faster fault restoration across 12 hr (default) and 4 hr eSLA option
  • Typical delivery within 50–90 business days
  • Real-time monitoring and reporting through the illume portal
  • Backed by Lightwire’s 24/7 network engineers
  • Reliable, secure connections backed by people, not call centres

Common plans

  • EE 250 Mbps (most common)
  • EE 500 Mbps
  • EE 1000 Mbps
  • EE 2000 Mbps (subject to availability)
  • EE 4000 Mbps (subject to availability)
  • EE 10000 Mbps (subject to availability)
Note: Access type is dependent on what's available at your address

TC4 broadband

Built for flexibility & value

For smaller offices, branch sites, or businesses that need reliable connectivity without full enterprise cost.

On 13 January 2025, nbn® announced a $3.8 billion investment co-funded with the Australian Government to upgrade remaining FttN connections across Australia. This initiative is expected to benefit around 622,000 homes and businesses, with 95 percent gaining the option to upgrade to FttP, with completion targeted by the end of 2030.

Understanding nbn® technology types

nbn® connections are delivered through several access technologies, depending on your location. Knowing the difference helps set the right expectations for performance and reliability.

Lightwire helps you understand which technology serves your site and designs solutions that maximise performance, reliability, and value.

Fibre to the Premise (FttP)

The most capable nbn® technology, with fibre running directly to your building. Supports the highest speeds and reliability.

Includes an NTD with RJ45 ethernet ports fordirect data connections. iIeal for businesses that rely on large datatransfers, cloud services, or high-definition communication systems.

Fibre to the Curb (FttC)

Uses fibre to the street cabinet and copper for the final few metres.offers good speeds and reliability for most business needs.

Fibre to the Node (FttN)

Fibre runs to a nearby node, and existing copper carries the signal to your premise. Suitable for basic business use but limited in speed.

Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)

Combines fibre with coaxial cable. Capable of higher download speeds than FttN and common in metropolitan areas.

Network Termination Device (NTD) & port types

Each nbn®connection terminates at a network termination device (NTD). depending on your technology type, you may have one or more active ports:

  • RJ45 ethernet port - used for most fibre and HFC business services (FttP, EE, and some FttC)
  • RJ11 port - used for voiceor legacy copper services (mainly FttN or FttB)

Lightwire provides the correct cabling and setup guidance for your NTD type to ensure seamless connection and performance.
